It’s such an obvious and rewarding thing to do that we rarely consider it. Instead, we resist, huncker-down, protect ourselves from what’s inevitable.
One of the greatest, and most influential insights I’ve ever had is to realize that power lies not within me, but in the space between me and everyone else. Just as in Quantum Physics, whereas the particles (individuals) may, or may not, have energy of their own, the true energy force lies between them.
If I want the power to make a difference, to contribute value, and to leave this world a better place that when I first experienced it, I need to interface and work with others.
My own awareness is within me. It tends to cycle endlessly until I introduce something new. Left to my own devices, I’m going nowhere.
Interfacing, interacting, and exchanging with others is essential if I want to grow. Why, then would I want to control or limit the diversity of ideas that surround me?
The power we seek is indeed ‘within’, as Rumi observed nearly one thousand years ago, but reality is shared. Without actively reaching out, as I’m now doing, I gain nothing. In fact, I’m resisting the flow, and going nowhere!
Open your mind to others. Give generously of what has limited value to you but possibly greater value to them. Experience their reality because it can only enhance your own.
